North Peruvian Nature and Culture Expedition 10D / 9N
Peru, millennial country of multiple cultures that preceded the Inkas and the current modernization. Our ancestors inhabited from the north to the south with a skill and dexterity in the unique adaptation in the world, leaving for us legacies, cities of great magnitude and evidences of their great technological advance. In this expedition, we will explore the main cities that amaze us for their great architectural beauty and we also explore the Amazonian forest of Iquitos.
Day 1. Lima
Pick up and transfer from the airport to the respective hotel. Today afternoon will be at leisure, enjoying the picturesque streets or delighting the delicacies of the Peruvian cuisine.
Day 2. Lima – Chiclayo
Early in the morning we tour the city, learning the archaeological sites of Huaca Pucllana, the Main Square, the Cathedral, Catacombs of San Francisco, among other beautiful buildings. In the afternoon we take a flight to Chiclayo, considered as the City of the Winds.
Day 3. Chiclayo
Relax morning and have time for shopping in the local craft market. In the afternoon we explore the city which still keeps old and beautiful buildings.
Day 4. Chiclayo
We start the expedition visiting the Huaca Rajada Archaeological site, where the famous tomb of the Lord of Sipán was found. Then we visit the Túcume pyramids and the museum.
After lunch, we continue our tour with the Museum, Royal Tombs of the Lord of Sipán in Lambayeque, where the original remains of the Lord of Sipan are exhibited, as well as its more than 400 pieces, including, earmuffs, necklaces, jewelry, ornaments and headdresses worked in gold, silver, turquoise, spondylus, etc.
Day 5. Chiclayo – Trujillo
After breakfast, we take our private van and travel for almost 4 hours towards Trujillo making small stops during it for our photos. In the afternoon, we explore the city that keeps ancient remains such as churches and picturesque streets.
Day 6. Trujillo
In the morning, we will start exploring Huaca del Sol, a majestic building made of bricks, after that, we go to Huaca Arco Iris. After lunch and short rest, we will visit the most impressive adobe-built city, the gorgeous Chan-Chan. After that, we will go to Balneario de Huanchaco to beautify ourselves with the famous Caballitos de Totora, old vehicles for our ancestors.
Day 7. Trujillo – Iquitos – Explorama Lodge
After our breakfast, we take our flight towards the paradisiac forest of Iquitos. At the airport, the staff will welcome us and take us to the main dock where our boat will be waiting for us. We travel along the Amazon River, making some stops at specific points to appreciate the flora and fauna of the place. In the afternoon we will have our first exploration into the dense forest with our guide, learning about the flora and fauna, such as, birds, dolphins, monkeys and more.
Day 8. Explornapo Lodge
Early in the morning, we head to one of the points of greatest biodiversity in the area to appreciate and enraptured by the feathered creatures, the birds. We return to the lodge for our breakfast and a short break. Later we go for an Artisanal Fishing expedition, for which will be transferred to one of the tributaries of the Amazon River, where we will learn about the artisan fishing techniques, as well as the piranha hunting. If the expedition was a success, you can take the fish to the lodge and have it at lunch time. Also, during this excursion we will have the opportunity to appreciate the friendly pink river dolphins (Inia Geoffrensis).
In the afternoon, we will make a short boat trip to a lake on Yanamono Island, where you can appreciate the majestic Victoria Regia, the queen of the water lilies and many birds and probably mammals as well. At night, before our dinner, we will a short walk nearby the lodge, looking for the night wildlife and obviously listening the magical sounds of insects and birds.
Day 9. Explornapo Lodge – Canopy walk
Very early in the morning, departure by boat to the Napo River, where in 1542, the intrepid explorer Francisco de Orellana, was the first European to see the Amazon River. The expedition continues along the Napo River until arriving at the ExplorNapo Lodge in time for breakfast. An excursion to the wonderful Suspension Bridge, that is more than 500 meters long between the top of the trees and the highest platform, located at 35 meters above the ground. After lunch a walk to the Ethno-Botanical Garden “ReNuPeRu” where we can see more than 240 species of Amazonian medicinal plants grown by a shaman who will explain us about them. Return to Explorama Lodge in time to relax in the hammock house or in the “La Tahuampa” Bar before dinner.
Day 10. Explorenapo Lodge – Lima
After our breakfast, we have the last walk in here though the forest next to the main river.
Back to Iquitos and Lima.
