Hidden Cusco Expedition 5D / 4N
Cusco, that magical city that composes wonderful trekking routes, cities built by cultures that preceded us and the pure nature that surrounds it, are always excellent excuses for explore it. In this Hidden Cusco Expedition we will have a short expedition but very adventurous visiting the destinations with more scenic beauty and attractions by excellence. Experience a short but wonderful hike through the Inca Trail and the next days, we visit Humantay Lake and the Rainbow mountain.
Day 1. Cusco – Tour in the city
Arrival to the city of Cusco and accommodation at the hotel. In the afternoon we will explore the city, visiting the biggest attractions such as the archaeological sites of Saqsaywaman, Tambomachay, Qorikancha and among others.
Day 2. Cusco – Inca Trail – Machupicchu
In the morning, we drive until Ollantaytambo and take the train to the Km 104 of the railway and arrive to Chachabamba (2100 masl – 6889 ft.), which is going to be our trekking starting point. We will hike approximately 4 hours until we reach Wiñayhuayna (2600 masl – 8530 ft.), where we will have a break to enjoy our lunch (box lunch). We continue with the tour for 2 more hours until we reach Inti Punku or Sun gate, where we will have the first views from of the Waynapicchu mountain and the Inca city. Arriving at Machupicchu, we will have the traditional photo and then board our bus to Aguas Calientes. We spend the night in the hotel.
Day 3. Machupicchu – Cusco.
Very early in the morning, we begin our hike up to Machupicchu citadel which will take us hour and a half to do it, and explore it for approximately 2:30 hours. Then we will head back to the town of Aguas Calientes to take the train back to Ollantaytambo and Cusco.
Day 4. Cusco – Humantay Lake
We start early in the morning from Cusco in our private van to Mollepata town, located close by the exuberant valley of the Apurímac river. After a well-deserved breakfast, we will continue our trip to Soraypampa (3900 masl – 12795 ft.), from where, we will begin our hike to the Humantay lake, located at 4230 masl – 13877 ft. After 1 hour and 30 minutes approximately hiking up, we will be able to appreciate such a wonderful place with majestic Andean landscapes. We will return to Mollepata for our lunch and take the van back to Cusco.
Day 5. Cusco – Rainbow mountain
We leave from Cusco to the north-east of the region, specifically to Pitumarca, a very traditional town of the Peruvian Andes for our delicious breakfast. We start hiking from the Quesiuno village through a very picturesque valley, full of alpacas and llamas, colorful birds waking up and more. Once we reach the top (5200masl – 17060 ft.), we will be rewarded with incredible views of the area while we enjoy the majesty of the multi-colored mountains and the Ausangate glacier. We will have time to photograph and enchant ourselves with the nature. We return to Pitumarca for our lunch and back to Cusco.
