Classic Peru Expedition 12D / 11N
Peru, that country where culture, adventure and nature fuse each other easily; highland valleys decorated with rivers, creeks or cascades, peaks with glaciers, pre-colombian cities well maintained thanks to their high quality architecture, the Amazon with the greatest biodiversity of the world and obviously the gastronomy, one of the most delicious of the world. This expedition takes us through every magical and exuberant place in the country.
Day 1. Lima
Pick up and transfer from the airport to the respective hotel. Today afternoon will be at leisure, enjoying the picturesque streets or delighting the delicacies of the Peruvian cuisine.
Day 2. Lima
Early in the morning we tour the city, learning the archaeological sites of Huaca Pucllana, the Main Square, the Cathedral, Catacombs of San Francisco, among other beautiful buildings. After lunch, in the afternoon, we will take our van towards Paracas, and spend the night in the hotel.
Day 3. Paracas – Ballestas Island – Ica
Early in the morning, after the delicious breakfast, we will have a fantastic tour of the Ballestas islands, spotting sea lions, penguins, cormorants, seagulls, among many other species. We return to the city to recover energetically with a delicious lunch.
In the afternoon, we go to Ica and have an adventure tour through the dunes of Huacachina and slip into the sandy desert.
Day 4. Ica – Nasca Lines – Lima
Today in the morning after breakfast, we will have a wonderful expedition. We head to the Nasca city and take a fly over the gorgeous lines, famous archaeological site belonging to the culture of the same name (VII century). We can enjoy the famous figures of monkey, dog, hummingbird, among others. We return to Lima in the same way. Overnight at the hotel in Lima.
Day 5. Lima – Cusco
We take our flight to the cultural world heritage of Cusco, the capital of the Inca Empire. By the afternoon, we tour in the city, visiting the most beautiful Inca Buildings and more.
Day 6. Cusco – Sacred Valley
Today, we will make an expedition for the whole day in the most famous and picturesque valley of Peru, the sacred valley. We will explore Pisaq, a city perfectly built on top of the mountain with the same name, and Ollantaytambo, the ceremonial unfinished place. Overnight at the hotel in Urubamba.
Day 7. Urubamba – Aguas Calientes
We explore other archaeological sites today; after breakfast, we drive towards the most famous Andean town for textiles in Peru, Chinchero, then, we go to what was the Inka laboratory, Moray. After our lunch we will experience the Maras salt mines, place of extraction of the Andean salt that was used by the pre-Inkas and Inkas back in the time. In the afternoon, we catch a train from Ollantaytambo and travel for about one and half hours to Aguas Calientes. We spend the night in a hotel.
Day 8. Aguas Calientes – Machupicchu – Cusco
Your excitement for our rendezvous at Machu Picchu will rise as we are driving early in the morning through the forest to reach the site before most other tourists – even the Inca Trail trekkers!! You will have plenty of time to explore this truly magnificent World Wonder while you enjoy the beautiful sunrise from this once-in-a-lifetime viewpoint. We will learn about this mystical place in a two-hour guided tour of the ruins. Afterwards, you can opt to climb Huayna Picchu or Machupicchu Mountain (if you have pre-booked tickets) or walk to the Sun Gate (without extra tickets). Lunch in Aguas Calientes and in the afternoon, we take the train back to Cusco.
Day 9. Cusco – Juliaca – Puno
We take a short flight to Juliaca, where a private van picks us up and drive to Puno, the folkloric capital of America. In the afternoon we will do a city tour.
Day 10. Puno – Amantani – Taquile
Today, will first visit the Uros island taking a comfortable boat and sail in the highest lake of the world, Titicaca. After visiting 2 floating islands, we continue with the expedition towards the Amantani island, arriving at noon, where we will be cordially received by the local families. Here accompanied by the families, we will walk to the local houses of the Island, where we will lunch typical Andean food. After settling down and resting, we will walk to the top of the island to see the Inca Pachamama and Pachatata ceremonial temples. After appreciating the beautiful views of the lake and its splendor, we will wait to see one of the most beautiful sunsets in the world.
During the night the families will organize a welcome party (Optional) where we can dance and wear the local clothing, all accompanied by local musicians.
Day 11. Taquile – Amantani
We start the day with a typical breakfast, and then descend to the dock and take our boat to Taquile island, we walk uphill to the main square, where we can observe the island from, learn more about the traditions and textile of the island. After lunch we return to Puno.
Day 12. Puno – Sillustani – Juliaca – Lima
Early in the morning, we board our van towards one of the most amazing archaeological sites in the region, Chullpas de Sillustani (tombs). These funerary towers of Sillustani have inverted and square cones. The most important of them is known as; «Chullpas of lizards», which has 12 meters in height and 7 meters of circumference.
We will also enjoy the beauty of the “Umayo lagoon” Located around the chullpas. We return to the city to take our van to Juliaca and the flight to Lima.
